Tips for regaining focus after summer vacation!

Another summer has gone too soon. Whether you were trekking through mountains, lounging by the water or exploring a new city, the reality check of returning to your daily routine can be tough. As the weather transitions, so do you – from vacay mode to real world mode, here are some tips to get yourself back on track:

  1. Set clear goals and stick to them

One of the best ways to get back on track is to set small, achievable goals and build on them as you dance yourself to the rhythm of a routine. Create manageable timelines for your goals and don’t stray from them, this will create a path to a clear direction and a sense of purpose as you transition back to your routine.

  1. Create a reentry plan

You enter your home and let out a sigh in dismay that the fun is over. On the bright side, you’re back in your comfortable space and have some time to rest before creating a game plan to get back into work mode. A solid plan for reentering your professional life should include organizing your workspace, to do list, and updating your calendar. This structure will help reduce stress and tackle tasks systematically.

  1. Prioritize self care

It can be easy to overwhelm yourself about ongoing projects and catching up on what you missed while enjoying a getaway. Don’t forget to take care of yourself! Allocate time for your hobbies and self care to feel good while transitioning back into the workflow. Unwind and recharge with a good book or get your body moving, the adrenaline from a workout can do wonders for productivity. Mindfully rewind into your routine: regulate your sleep schedule and meal times so that you can build consistency in daily habits and regain a sense of normalcy to improve overall focus and productivity.

  1. Minimize distractions

It’s easy to daydream about your days tanning on the beach or reminiscing breathtaking views on repeat. Prioritize reconnecting with your team to catch up on any updates or changes that occurred during your absence and discuss any ongoing projects. Creating a focus mode on your devices and working in a designated space (hint hint) can be a great way to minimize your distractions and stay motivated at work. For those who work from home, coworking spaces with designated rooms for meetings and personal offices are a great way to separate your personal and professional life- especially after a vacation.

  1. Reflect, adjust and be patient!

You just went on vacation, it would be a shame not to share it. Show your friends, family, and coworkers the cool spots you visited, delicious food you ate and what resonated with you from your trip. While doing so, you get to relive your memories while adjusting to being back in the workplace. Maybe you can add some new hobbies you picked along the way on vacation to your updated routine. Most importantly, adjustment takes time. Give yourself grace and be patient with yourself to regain your focus while sticking to your timeline. Always celebrate small victories and remember that getting back on track is a gradual process.
