Zoom Fatigue is Real. And it's Really Exhausting
How many times in the past week have you heard the term, “Zoom Fatigue.” Yes, it’s real. You’re not just feeling like you’re feeling this way. Excessive video calls are actually tiring you out more quickly than a traditional workday pre-COVID.
Last month researchers at Stanford University published an article in the journal, Technology, Mind and Behavior. The article was peer-reviewed and the first of its kind since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic. The four points below outline how the calls are wearing you out.
- Excessive amounts of close-up eye contact is intensive
- Seeing yourself during video chats in real-time is fatiguing
- Our mobility is limited
- Video chats require the body to be much more committed cognitively
Zoom and its counterparts in the market are fantastic tools that are helping to keep us safe at home. As more and more people become inoculated to the coronavirus, though, many will look forward to reconnecting in a much more person-to-person manner.
